If you are a part of my e-mail list, you will have noticed that I have been taking you on a little journey through learning about the cell salts! If you’re not on the e-mail list, be sure to sign up at the bottom of any webpage!
I love the cell salts because they are so easy to get started with. There is no worry of proving like you have with the other homeopathic remedies. And the cell salts are so versatile, you probably have a reason to start using one today!
Some Background
Cell salts have been around since the 1800’s when Dr. Schuessler, a German doctor, discovered them. He studied the burned ash of human remains and noticed there were prominent minerals which he deemed to be essential to humans. It’s from his research that we get the twelve cell salts we are going to cover.
Cell salts today are given in pellet or liquid form and contain trace amounts of minerals that are vital to our body’s cells for optimal functioning. In order for our cells to function well, they need to be able to move minerals, such as sodium and potassium, easily in and out of cells. The cell salts work to help the body re-establish a healthy mineral balance which leads to healthier cells, tissues, and ultimately healthier you! Diseases and illness can present as too much or too little of various minerals. Because the goal of cell salts is to “balance”, they can be beneficial in both circumstances. We will learn more specifics about the types of ailments cell salts can help with as we go through each individual cell salt.
Calcarea fluorata
There are many reasons you may feel you need the first cell salt, and some of those include the health of your bones! Of course, there are other reasons too, and you can find those below. We likely ALL need this cell salt at some point in our lives, especially in stages of rapid growth or as we age and are feeling more “brittle”.
Calc fluor, or “bone salt” is found in the surface of the bones, enamel of the teeth, elastic tissues, and cells of the epidermis (skin).
COMMON USES:
- bone spurs
- arthritic joints with spurring, especially hip joints
- tooth decay, cavities, and gum recession
- chronic low back pain
- cystic breast tissue
TIPS: Keep in mind things like bone spurs take time to heal. To achieve best results, you will likely need a low potency for 3 to 12 months.
Calcarea phosphoricum
It’s amazing what balanced minerals can do for the aches and pains we experience on a daily basis. Even if you already have a remedy picked for chronic pain, consider adding in Calc phos as a cell salt if it fits the picture below.
Calc phos is the second cell salt in the calcium group and another major contributor to bone strength. While Calcarea fluorata is most helpful for strengthening joints, Calcarea phosphorica tends to be more helpful for the long bones in the body.
COMMON USES:
- Growing pains
- Teething in babies
- Osteoporosis
- General detox – especially from tobacco
- Depression – discontent and inability to be pleased
TIPS: For acute, painful teething, Chamomilla is the number one remedy. Calcarea phosphorica would be more indicated if the problem is re-occurring and would be utilized in a low potency for several months. Etiology with this remedy often comes from junk food, grief, or overwork.
Calcarea sulphurica
Do you have things about your skin that bother you? Do you sometimes have discharges that you wish you could just make go away? Instead of immediately reaching for creams and medications, I have something for you today that you might want to try instead!
Calc sulph is otherwise known as “sulphate of lime” and is the last cell salt in the calcium group. Calc sulph has an affinity for the skin and to a lesser extent mucous membranes.
COMMON USES:
- Acne
- Boils or cysts
- Gum abscess
- Conjunctivitis (eye irritation)
- Poor healing wounds
TIPS: White or yellow pus formation is the key symptom to look for when determining if this cell salt is indicated for any of the conditions listed above.
